Take a Flying Leap!
The christmas tree has been taken down, and all your little Star Trek ornaments have been lovingly put away. You've stopped writing '03 on your checks at the comic book store. You've decided which fandom will be represented by your Valentine's Day cards. Now that you're (hopefully) fully ensconced in 2004, it's time to learn about an event that only happens every four years.
The summer or winter Olympics? No. The Flash could outrun any of those amatuers. The 2004 American Presidential election? Most of us would rather have Bartlett -- or maybe even Luthor. No, what I'm talking about is the
2004 Take a Flying Leap Challenge.
Any fandom, any pairing, or none at all. This is how it works:
The theme of this challenge is "Flight." How you choose to write that is open to your interpretation. Ignore that "no flights, no tights" rule, and show us Clark as he learns to control his airborne skills. Write about Dan and Casey making out under the blanket on a plane on the way home from an interview. Visit the Everwood teens getting high in the Mile High City.Show us that the hottest action doesn't happen in the Quidditch locker rooms, but mid-air during a game. A character of your choice suddenly sprouts wings. How do they deal with it? A world of possibilities awaits you. You may also do artwork, if you are so inclined.
We will send you a flying related quote to use as a prompt for your fic or artwork. You can use it in the work itself, or as inspiration, but please do make it a part of your response in some way -- even if it's just in the author's note.
You'll get an automatic upgrade from Coach to First Class if you send us flight related quotes/lyrics for possible use. Of course we won't give you your own prompts back for your own use.
Your fic should be at least 1000 words. We won't ground you if it's a little less, but we want fics, not drabbles.
Artwork should be bigger than an icon, smaller than a breadbox.
Pre-boarding (Sign ups) will be allowed up to February 27th. You may email HYPERFocused@aol.com, ChickenJodie@LiveJournal.Com, or LifeinWords@Yahoo.com. Or post a response to this notice, including the email where you'd like your prompt to be sent.
We will send you your tickets (prompts) within about a week of receiving your email.
Take-Off will be on Leap Day, February 29th, 2004. All entries are due on that day, and need to be posted to your LJ.
We'll post/email info on where to submit links to your entries when it gets closer to take-off. The master list of participants (seating assignments) will be on our LJs.
Please do not post your stories elsewhere until March 7th. All stories and art will be included in the "In Flight Entertainment" (archive).
Happy landings!
-- your pilots :HYPERFocused, ChickenJodie, LifeinWords
P.S - -Earn Frequent Flyer points (or at least our undying thanks) by pimping this challenge out on your own LJs and wherever else seems appropriate. The more the merrier. There's lots of leg-room on this flight.
